I have so probably posted something like this before, but do you ever feel like other Moms (or families) are better at keeping their lives organized?
For example, we live in MN and niether my 6 year old or my 3 1/2 year old have EVER been ice skating! I mean, do I have to buy them skates? When do I do that? When do I take them ice skating - in the evening when we have barely 5 spare seconds, or on the weekends that are almost always booked with other activities?
Also, I have yet to even start Laila's baby scrapbook and she's 18 months old. Sure, all the pictures and paperwork is crammed in the front cover but there is not so much as a drop of glue in it. (at least I have, on occasion, written in her album).
I have not rearranged my furniture (aside from the pipe bursting in the basement last year) since we moved in 3 years ago. The girls have gotten new beds and such, but I have the exact same paint and pictures on the wall that were there in 2006.
For me, the winter months provide zero motivation to do anything. Seriously, most of the time I don't even like to get ready in the morning.
At any rate, aside from moving south (which I am diligently working on) where do I get inspiration to do this stuff?

Workin 9 to 5 (and 5 to 10)
Hey all! So just thought I'd update you on my employment status since I am now, once again, a member of the work force.
I have taken on two little daycare children again so am back on that band wagon. One is the daughter of a friend from high school and another is a little boy just 2 months older than Laila. It's nice to have little friends around for Laila to play with. And, having daycare back in business keeps me more structured and on top of things around the house.
I am also now working at the restaurant down the street. I used to drive close to 25 minutes to a 1/2 hour to work before and now I only have to travel about 6 blocks! It's a Champps and the food is good, it's always busy, the money's good and it's fun! The people that work there are fun (except the one girl) and, so far, we've been able to work my schedule around Bill's.
So, that's the employment update!

Missing My Brothers
I don't know why, but in the last couple of days I have been really missing my brothers.
I heard a song in the car the other day that reminded me of Jimmy and yesterday Laila was cuddling up with the Army beanie bear from her Uncle Dave and that made me think about him.
It's so hard to be away from the two people who know me best. The two people who share my exact same childhood memories (each with a different twist, of course). The two people who can make me laugh harder than should be humanly possible. The two people who are always super duper nice to me but will also put me in my place. The two people I go to for advice when handling a family "situation." The two people who tell me about funny movies and good music. The two people who absolutely adore my girls and who my girls are head-over-heels-gaga for.
I have the best brothers in the world and anyone would be lucky to have the kind of relationship the 3 of us have. I just wish I could see them more often.

Should Have You in Stitches
The following is a post I totally stole from another cool blog I found today.

Random Thoughts of the Day:
◦I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
◦More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can’t wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that’s not only better, but also more directly involves me.
◦Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
◦I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.
◦The letters T and G are very close to each other on a keyboard. This recently became all too apparent to me and consequently I will never be ending a work email with the phrase "Regards" again.
◦Do you remember when you were a kid, playing Nintendo and it wouldn't work? You take the cartridge out, blow in it and that would magically fix the problem. Every kid in America did that, but how did we all know how to fix the problem? There was no internet or message boards or FAQ's. We just figured it out. Today's kids are soft.
◦There is a great need for sarcasm font.
◦Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what the heck was going on when I first saw it.
◦I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.
◦Was learning cursive really necessary?
◦Lol has gone from meaning, "laugh out loud" to "I have nothing else to say".
◦I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.
◦Whenever someone says "I'm not book smart, but I'm street smart", all I hear is "I'm not real smart, but I'm imaginary smart".
◦How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear what they said?
◦I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars teams up to prevent an aggressive driver from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers!
◦MapQuest really needs to start their directions on #5. Pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.
◦Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.
◦I find it hard to believe there are actually people who get in the shower first and THEN turn on the water.
◦I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.
◦Whenever I'm Facebook stalking someone and I find out that their profile is public I feel like a kid on Christmas morning who just got the Red Ryder BB gun that I always wanted. 546 pictures? Don't mind if I do!
◦Is it just me or do high school girls get sluttier & sluttier every year?
◦Why is it that during an ice-breaker, when the whole room has to go around and say their name and where they are from, I get so incredibly nervous? Like I know my name, I know where I'm from; this shouldn't be a problem....
◦You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you've made up your mind that you just aren’t doing anything productive for the rest of the day.
◦Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after DVDs? I don't want to have to restart my collection.
◦There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.
◦I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.
◦When I meet a new person, I'm terrified of mentioning something they haven’t already told me but that I have learned from some light internet stalking.
◦I like all of the music in my iTunes, except when it's on shuffle, then I like about one in every fifteen songs in my iTunes.
◦Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.
◦It should probably be called Unplanned Parenthood.
◦Even if I knew your social security number, I wouldn't know what do to with it.
◦I wonder if cops ever get annoyed at the fact that everyone they drive behind obeys the speed limit.
◦I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

quirks
I read Stickyfeather's blog about this and thought it was a cute post idea (especially since I don't feel like I have a whole lot else to blog about lately).
A few quirks that I have that I can think of off the top of my head:
when I shower everything has to be done in it's proper order: shampoo, condition, shave, wash, face, rinse hair, rinse bod
I much prefer using a regular old toothbrush than a fancy spinny one - that way I can brush harder.
I can't eat until I've been up for atleast an hour (usually more)
I eat sunflower seeds if I'm watching TV
I almost never leave dishes in the sink - drives me nuts
I have to have the dishwasher jam packed before running it and emptying it is the worst chore there is in my opinion
I talk loud on the phone
I bite my fingers - not my nails - my fingers. totally gross
I whistle all the time and usually don't even realize I'm doing it. I also get whatever song I heard last stuck in my head. people have been known to mess with me that know that.
I almost always bring leftovers home from a restaurant but almost never eat it.
I'm compulsive about cutting my kids' nails
I always have toe nail polish on: 12 months of the year
OK, that's it for now. Makes you think doesn't it??

Happy 2010
My Mom was in for the New Year and I couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate! Thanks, Mom, for coming to see us - we love you!! (I would post the picture of her holding the guitar from our new Guitar Hero game if I thought she wouldn't kill me).
And now we're back to reality.
I want to post about how overwhelmed I feel with a hectic work schedule, Christmas decorations to put away, a birthday party and children who are on the verge of being sold to the circus, but I'm not going to start the year off that way.
So, I'm going to ask a sort of taboo question to you all which is: how much money do you spend on groceries a week?
I know we're not supposed to talk about money but I'm curious if I'm spending too much. Typically, I make a full menu plan including breakfast, lunch and dinner (I am at home so lunches are here everyday vs. school lunches for some of you, etc) and I spend about $150 a week. I try and use coupons, but I don't usually shop around because I don't have time to go to 5 stores.
Do you think I'm on target or am I spending more than I should?
